You Know about Tense.
Can You tell What type of Tense these are?---
1. I must have been sitting in a dark corner in a train.
2. I had better not get too familiar.
Let's try to discuss...
" I must have been sitting in a dark corner in a train."
It is Conditional Perfect continuous and "I had better not get too familiar." it is Present Indefinite.
In first case, Sentence structure : Subject + Modal Auxiliary Verb + Have + been + Verb ing+ Others : Conditional Perfect Continuous.
2nd case, Sentence structure : Subject + Adverb + verb0 + others : Present Indefinite.

Tense is related to time. In English, we use different verb-forms to show differences in time.
The following sentences may be noted in this connection.
1. Today is now ( that is present)
2. Yesterday was the past (the day that has passed)
3. Tomorrow will come (in the future)
Time of action of a verb is called Tense

Formation of Tense

Tenses are formed either by changing the verb (i.e know, knew, play, played, go, went ) or by adding auxiliary verbs (i.e. will know, had known, is playing,)
Modal Auxiliary Verbs make Conditional Tense, Primary Auxiliary Verbs make Present or Past Tense And Shall /Will makes Future Tense

Introduction of Tense

The word tense comes from the latin tempus, time. A verb that refers to the present time is said to be in the Present Tense; as He plays football.
A verb that refers to the past time is said to be in the past Tense; as, He played football.
A verb that refers to the future time is said to be in the Future Tense; as, He will play football.

Classification of Tense

Tense is mainly classified in Three types generally it is classified in four types --------
1. Present Tense
2. Past Tense
3. Future Tense and
4. Conditional.
Each Tense has four forms according to duration of action --------
1. Indefinite - In + definite
(Time is not define)
2. Continuous - Continue
(Action is running)
3. Perfect - end or Complete
4. Prefect Continuous - Action is running from a point of time of past.

STRUCTURE OF TENSE

  1. Present Indefinite

    Subject + Verb (o/s/es) + Object.
    Ex: He goes to School

  2. Present Continuous

    Subject + am/is/are + Verb(ing) object.
    Ex: He is going to School.

  3. Present Perfect

    Subject + Have/has + Verb + Object. :
    Ex: He has gone to school.

  4. Present Perfect Continuous

    Subject + have/has + been + Verb(ing) + object + time.
    Ex: He has been going to School for two hours.

  5. Past Indefinite

    Subject + Verbed + Object.
    Ex: He Went to School.

  6. Past Continuous

    Subject + Was/Were + Verb(ing) + Object.
    Ex: He Was going to School.

  7. Past Perfect

    (1). Subject + had + verben + object + before + Subject + verb(ed) + object Ex: He had gone to School before the prayer started.
    (2). Subject + verb(ed) + object + after + Sub + had + verben + object.
    Ex: The prayer started after he had gone to School.

  8. Past Perfect Continuous

    Subject + had + been + Verb(ing) + object + time.
    Ex: He had been going to school for two hours.

  9. Future Indefinite

    Subject + Shall/will + Verb0 + object.
    Ex: He will go to School

  10. Fiture Continuous

    Subject + Shall/Will + be + Verb(ing) + Object.
    EX: He will be going to School.

  11. Future Perfect

    (1). Subject + Shall/Will + Have + verben + object + before + subject + Verb(o/s/es) + object.
    Ex: He will have gone to School Beforethe prayer starts.
    (2). Subject + verb(o/s/es) + object + after + Subject + Shall/will + have + verben + object.
    Ex: The prayer starts after he will have gone to School.

  12. Future Perfect Continuous

    Subject + Shall/will + have + been + verb(ing) + object + time.
    Ex: He Will have been going to School for hours.

  13. Conditional Indefinite

    Subject + Would/Could + verb0 + object.
    EX: He would go to School

  14. Conditional Continuous

    Subject + would/could + be + Verb(ing) + object.
    Ex: He would be going to School.

  15. Conditional Perfect

    Subject + would/could + have Verben + object.
    Ex: He would have gone to School.

  16. Conditional Perfect Cotinuous

    Subject + would/could + have + been + verb(ing) + time.
    Ex: He would have been going to School since 8.00 am.
